Frequently Asked Questions
In case you were wondering......
Why should I surf on Foilz instead or standard straight spined fins?
Add a set of Foilz to your fin collection for guaranteed fun!
Foilz are not designed to do exactly what straight spined surfboard fins do, they are to mix and match with the generic fins to create the right amount of lift and thrust for your style of surfing, and get the maximum potential out of you and your surfboard.
Foilz are specifically designed to provide lift and extra thrust in order to create quicker speed through the shorter sections of the waves with less effort and more control.
Foilz come as a pair, (Left and Right) and can be used as a twin or thruster set up or quad configuration, as you please.
You now have a greater choice and a new and exciting surfboard fin to create new dynamics and take your surfing to the edge.
How do they go?
Foilz give you lift preventing standard board surface friction and drag, creating heaps more speed off the bottom or down the line so when you move into a turn you are more explosive with the added speed. They're awesome in barrels!
What type of fin set-up is best for the Foilz…?
As a pair they are most suited to thrusters’ set-ups and Quad set-ups, and for the old loose goose twin fin surfers of the M.R era they are also perfect.
What type of fin boxes do the Foilz fit into?
Present models fit into FCS fin boxes and can also be glassed into your board. Foilz suited to other types of fin boxes will be available at a later date.
What type of surfboards do the Foilz suit best…?
They work well on most types of boards but what we have found is that the Foilz go best on rounded square or square tails and wide swallow tails, depending on the fin configuration and tail area of the board.
We have found that the bigger tail area gets a greater response, but it also depends on the style of surfing and surfer’s experience.
Are Foilz suitable for most types of surf conditions?
Yes. The planular section of the Foilz Fin gives enhanced performance in most surf conditions. Surfers have been finding they're getting awesome results in down the line, fast waves like point breaks, reef breaks and barrels. Whether you're shooting airs, controlling your speed deep in a barrel, or doing floaters off the top, Foilz are a very practical design for today's style of surfing.
In onshore and sloppy conditions, you will find Foilz will give you an advantage driving through the whitewash.
Do I use Foilz with a standard rear fin?
Yes. Play around with different combos to get the right lift and grab.
What is the benefit of the increased lift and flexibility of the Foilz?
They are a lot more dynamic once you pick up the wave, and less effort is required to create speed on the wave.
They will help you pick up the waves more easily and give you more time to set up manoeuvres, as you will not have to re position your feet as frequently to control your speed.
They make surfing even more pleasurable and fun with less water tension on the surface hull creating more speed and less stress on the surfer as the surfboard will glide more controllably through the water.
