Road Trip

Road Trip

Well it's been a while since i did my last blog and since then I've been pretty busy..

We have had a pretty good run of waves up here and I've been trying to make the most of it ahead of the WQS events here at the start of the year. The first event we had was the Burleigh Breaka Pro -  we had some fun waves -  it was tricky Burleigh, not your typical Burleigh sand set up but still some fun waves..

I mananged to make a few heats there and finish up 17th overall which I was pretty ok about just because it might as well be a 6 star prime event the amount of big names that enter the event. I think they all use it as a warm up for the WCT event at Snapper, as i'ts the week before. I then had a week from then to get ready for the Quicky Pro Trials, which ended up getting held in the most perfect waves I think I have ever surfed in a comp. I was first heat of the event and didn't have a bad heat - got a few really fun barrells and waves but the other guys did to and I ended up bowing out unfortunately. I think I was more upset about not getting to keep surfing those waves.

I had a few weeks off then I was heading down to Newcastle for another 4 star WQS event. I decided to drive down with my girlfriend and make a bit of a road trip out of it and just test out equipment and get my sea legs really working before the comp. I scored some sick waves. My first stop was at my mates house Matt Jones in Yamba. I stayed the night there and got some fun beachies and the point as well. Then headed down the coast another few hours to Coffs Harbour whereIi stopped over quickly for a fun beachy session on my Foilz, and had the best fun surf I've had in a while. Then we kept heading south to my girlfriends home town of Cresent Head. I really wanted to get the point good but unfortunately the winds were wrong so I headed over to the back beach were I scored some super fun left wedges..

We stayed the night there then headed off early to go check Port Maquarie. I saw some super fun set ups but decided to keep trecking south to Forster.. And it was worth it i checked out Boomerang Beach and there was just the most playful peaks coming in everywhere and no one around.

I'd had enough road tripping by now and decided to head down to the event at Newcastle. My cousins live right near the beach there so it was good to have a homely place to stay while I was down there. Unfortunately I wasn't down there for long, not having a great heat and getting a bit unlucky losing in the last 10 seconds of my heat but I guess that surfing. Still such a fun trip and I'm stoked I took the time to check everywhere out on the way down.

I heard about a comp up home on the weekend so I darted home to see if i could make up for my loss down here at Newy.  It wasn't a money event but there were some good prizes and stuff up for grabs and it was good to have a heap of heats and get back into the rhythm again. I ended up winning the student division and runner up in the open taking home a board and a few other things so I guess it was worth doing.

Latley I just been trying boards and fins and mucking round with my Go Pro camera on my jetski. Me and my mate took it to 4 foot straddie the other day and got some super fun stuff so I'm gunna try get some more and then start putting it up on the site.  So keep posted for some new footage..

Thanks heaps for reading

Home Perfection

Posted on 18 January 2011

Well what a week for waves.. unfortunately it come with some sad news, with all the horrific floods in queensland.  Over 3/4 of Queensland got flooded. Extremely sad. My thoughts go out to you all.

Only an hour south of this natural disaster the waves were firing. For three days straight I got to finally use my new ski and get out in some solid swell. It only really got to 6 foot but it was a clean ground swell. My local wave was going off, thick pits behind the rock and then running down the point. This is the first time I've also been able to try the Foilz out my local when its big and they didn't disappoint. So fast in the barrell meant I could get even deeper out there. If you're going to a barrelling wave make sure you take a set of Foilz with you.  You will be surprised the difference they make.

I've also been waiting to get the right swell for Kirra, the perfect testing ground for the Foilz. It finally started to work in this swell, my mate was dropping me off at big groyne and I was surfing down to North Kirra then jumping on the ski and getting a lift back out, no paddling was awesome...

But the best part was how crazy the Foilz were working out there.  I kinda expected them to perform in these conditions and they really did.  I honestly suggest anyone living or going to places like this to just try a set.  You won't turn back after using them in the tube..

We also had a teams event (Jim Beam Surftag) on the weekend while the swell was around.... they ran it at Greenmount. Such a fun comp with all the boys turning up. We ended up having a massive day of surfing and came out on top so we're off to the nationals in Sydney next month, should be fun..

Looks like we have a couple of cyclones lining up as well so hopefully to don't add to the current disaster but deliver some epic waves, fingers crossed...

stay posted for the next swell.. yew Corey

Down the Coast

Down the Coast

Hey guys, just got back from a trip down the coast.

Got some super fun waves, started driving down with the ski a bit over a week ago, I decided I call into my mates place a few hours south to visit him for his 30th b day. I arrived there and we went and check the surf at the point, it was kind of pumping. 3 foot fun waves and barely anyone out. We surfed there for a while then came in for some food. We then decided to check this other wave for a quick afternoon surf before dark. It was hard to tell if it was good but when we got out there we found ourselves alone with just us 3 out and the most playful barrelling left I'd surfed on the east coast of Oz!  As I expected theFfoilz were the right fin for that surf just holding its line so good in the barrel and giving me extra speed when I was getting out on the face.. I was so stoked to call in there along the way these 2 surfs alone made my trip already.

I then headed off again even more South for a few more hours. I was going to stay down here for about a week. When I  arrived the waves were tiny but the conditions were awesome so we got the ski out and decided to do some whip ins down the beach. For how much swell was around its suprising how much fun you can have with a jetski and half a foot wave. Im pretty sure my Foilz may have been adding to the fun giving me that extra lift when hitting the sections. Unfortunaly the waves didn’t get much better all week it did pick up slightly for a couple of days but not much bigger then waist high, still it was good to get down the coast and get away for a bit and just surf my brains out.

I will post a shot of us whipping in..

Thanks for reading.

Corey
